Cash donations to our rescue effort are always greatly appreciated. They will be used for supplies (crates, premium dog food, towels, blankets, shampoo, toys and treats, etc.) Some of our dogs have special medical needs and donations can be made directly towards their medical treatments. Please make a donation today!

Foster Homes are a great need! For every foster parent there is one more dog saved from the shelters, from being unwanted, and from abusive homes.
Please consider fostering!
Typical time frames for fostering are from 2 weeks to several months at a time. It is very rewarding and you will enjoy watching the Shih Tzu blossom under your care. If you wish to join Ohio Fuzzy Pawz Rescue or become a foster parent, you can request information and a rescue application from ofpjoanandjim@aol.com.

Now you can help our rescue efforts by sponsoring a dog. Rescuing gets really expensive and every dog in our program will cost an average of $100.00 - $300.00, depending on his or her medical needs and length of stay. Your tax-deductible sponsorship fee will be used towards a rescued dog's medical expenses and daily care.
To become a Sponsor, simply send an email to ofpjoanandjim@aol.com and we will email you a form to fill out and send back to us. You can also Sponsor one of the dogs below by clicking the "Sponsor" button below the dog you which to sponsor.

Vince:
As a volunteer for Fuzzy Pawz, I was called one day to pick up an owner surrender. The only thing we knew about this dog was that his name was Vince and they didn't want to take care of him anymore. So I got in my car and sped away thinking to myself, "just be nice and get him out of there". I arrived and was greeted at the door by a very nice woman and her daughter. They invited me in and there was Vince. Dirty, matted, nails so long they were in the bottoms of the pads on his feet. His poor little feet were even bleeding from the nails digging in so deep! The top of his head was one big matt and they had it tied up on top with a rubber band so he could see. Poor Vince even wagged his tail to greet me but then I noticed something even more pathetic.
He basically had to crawl over to meet me. He used his front legs to drag his back legs behind him. The tops of his back feet were missing hair and bleeding from dragging them behind. I asked the woman what had happened and all she said was that he just started that one day and that the vet said it was hereditary. I was appalled at his condition. Needless to say, I got the dog and left as soon as possible.
In tears while driving, I called ahead to the foster mom and told her what I had just picked up. I knew he had been like this for a long time and also knew in my heart he had never gotten treated for what ever had happened. Vince got to his foster mom's and got a bath, nail trim and lots of love! He's been getting acupuncture treatments which are really helping him use his back legs. Vince even walks on one of them now. The veterinarian would like for us to do an MRI on Vince but the funds are just not there. We've done an Xray and he's not showing any broken bones, but without the MRI we'll never know if he has any spinal or nerve damage.

Honey "Tubs" Our Honey.what can we say about our Honey? Affectionately known as Tubs, this big girl wins everyone's heart the moment she enters a room. You know immediately when she comes into a room, the floor shakes a bit - almost as much as Tubs herself. Tubs feet may stop, but the rest of her keeps going for some time. She is a one-dog version of "the wave." She has a pin-up picture of the Pillsbury Dough Boy hanging above her dog bed.
She takes a walk around the back yard about once a day. She's up to 15 -20 steps before she has to sit down and rest. This is Tubs' idea of an aerobic workout.
Getting in and out of the house presents a challenge for Tubs too. When she goes through the pet door, the fat just pushes back and she looks like a blob of Jello going through. She eventually gets all 4 legs through and then the rest of her follows a few seconds later.
We saw her playing with a toy yesterday. She wants to play more but loses the toy underneath herself and can't get it. It's hard when you can't see your feet, you know. I wouldn't be surprised to find some things hiding under Tubs that we thought were lost.
She loves her green beans and carrots so dieting is no problem. She is allowed a few bites of dry dog food in the morning and about a heaping tablespoon of canned food at night. (To hide her Thyroid pill)
She's really sweet and would love to be a lap dog someday. Not sure if anyone's lap is quite big enough or strong enough to hold her right now.
I'd love to pick her up to sit on the couch with me but it's really hard to pick up Jello. You just can't be sure if you've got her or not. With tender loving care and a proper diet, those pounds will melt away to reveal one Honey of a dog.
